Common mistakes on DevOps resumes
1. Listing tools without showing scale. Every DevOps candidate lists Kubernetes and Terraform. What differentiates you is the scale: 200-node clusters, 50 deployments per day, 99.99% uptime. Include the numbers.
2. Writing "cloud experience" without naming the platform. AWS, Azure, and GCP are different enough that hiring managers treat them as distinct skills. Name your primary platform and list specific services.
3. Omitting certifications. AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes certifications are among the highest-signal credentials in DevOps. If you have them, they belong in your header. If you don't have them and are applying to senior roles, get them.
4. No reliability metrics. A DevOps resume without uptime percentages, MTTR figures, or deployment frequency data is missing its core value proposition. Every role you have held has reliability metrics attached — find them and include them.
5. Ignoring security. DevSecOps is a standard expectation in 2026. If you have SAST/DAST integration, secrets management, or compliance certification experience and it's not on your resume, you are leaving high-value keywords and differentiating experience unrepresented.

Big Five banks (RBC, TD, BMO): Large-scale cloud migration programmes driving significant DevOps hiring. Azure is the dominant platform at most major banks. Experience with regulated environments and change management processes is valued.
